Privacy Policy
We watch cargo, not people. This policy explains what data ASL Logistics B.V. collects to run a monitored freight network, why we collect it, and the rights you hold over it.

Who we are
ASL Logistics B.V. (“ASL”, “we”, “us”) is a freight forwarding and logistics company registered in the Netherlands, with its head office in Rotterdam. We operate ocean, air, and road freight lanes between Europe, Asia, and North America, and we run the monitoring and automation systems that track shipments moving on those lanes.
For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Dutch GDPR Implementation Act (Uitvoeringswet AVG), ASL Logistics B.V. is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Where we process consignment data strictly on a customer’s documented instructions, we act as a processor.
Data we collect
We collect three categories of data.
Shipment telemetry. Our tracking devices and carrier integrations report container and vehicle positions, geofence entry and exit events, sensor readings (temperature, humidity, shock, door state), timestamps, and route milestones. Telemetry is keyed to a tracking number and an asset — a container, trailer, or unit load device — not to an individual person. Driver identity is not collected by our devices; where a carrier partner supplies a driver name for a handoff record, we store only what the shipping document requires.
Consignment records. To move freight and clear customs we process shipper and consignee names, company details, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, cargo descriptions, declared values, and the contents of commercial and customs documentation you provide.
Data you submit on this site. The contact form collects your name, email address, subject, and message. The quote form additionally collects shipment details (origin, destination, mode, cargo particulars) and your company name. The tracking page requires only a tracking number; looking up a shipment does not require an account and we do not link lookups to your identity.
Our web servers keep standard technical logs (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) for security and debugging. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers on this site — see our Cookie Policy.
Why we process it
We use the data above to:
- execute carriage: book capacity, generate manifests, file customs entries, and coordinate handoffs with carriers and terminals;
- operate monitoring: compute positions and ETAs, raise geofence and sensor alerts, and display shipment status on the tracking page;
- respond to contact messages and prepare quotes you have requested;
- meet legal obligations, including customs, sanctions screening, and record-keeping requirements;
- secure our systems, investigate incidents, and prevent fraud.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Legal bases
Under the GDPR, we rely on: performance of a contract (executing and monitoring your shipments, answering quote requests); legal obligation (customs filings, statutory record retention); legitimate interests (network security, service telemetry, defending legal claims) — balanced against your rights; and consent, where we ask for it explicitly, which you may withdraw at any time.
Who we share it with
Shipment data is shared on a need-to-move basis with the parties in your shipment’s chain: carriers, port and terminal operators, customs brokers, and customs and border authorities in origin, transit, and destination countries. We also use a small number of service providers — cloud hosting, our database provider, and a transactional email service used to send confirmations and notifications — each bound by contract to process data only on our instructions.
We disclose data to public authorities where a law or binding order requires it, and we record such disclosures where we are permitted to.
International transfers
Freight crosses borders; so does the data that describes it. When consignment data moves outside the European Economic Area, we rely on the safeguards available under the GDPR, including standard contractual clauses with our processors and carrier partners, and we limit transfers to what the shipment’s routing actually requires.
Retention
Shipment telemetry and consignment records are retained for the period required by customs and transport regulations on the lanes we serve — typically five to six years after delivery — then deleted or anonymised for network statistics. Contact and quote form submissions are kept for up to twenty-four months after our last exchange with you, unless they mature into a shipment file. Server logs rotate within ninety days.
Your rights
Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you may request access to the personal data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, restriction of processing, a portable copy, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting prior processing.
To exercise a right, email privacy@aslfreight.org. We respond within the statutory window of one month under the GDPR. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your local supervisory authority.
Security
Telemetry and consignment data are transmitted over encrypted channels and stored in access-controlled databases. Access to the operations console is restricted to authorised staff, logged, and reviewed. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Changes and contact
We revise this policy when our processing changes, and we stamp each revision at the top of this page. Material changes to how we handle consignment data are notified to active customers directly.
